The 1988 is a classic expression of Lafite.This deeply colored wine(deep plum/ruby) exhibits the telltale Lafite bouquet of cedar,subtle herbs,dried pit fruits,minerals,asphalt,lead pencil,and cassis.Extremely concentrated,with brilliant focused flavors and huge tannins,this backward yet impressively endowed Lafite Rothschild looks increasingly like the wine of the vintage! Anticipated maturity: now-2035. Written,approx.2004.

This bottle was bought En Primeur (Futures)in the USA.Since purchase it has been ideally stored in an underground cellar until August 2009,when it was transferred to a purpose-built,temperature-controlled cellar in the UK.The bottle is in very good condition,with wine fill still high into neck.However,the label is slightly discoloured with a pink hue(see photograph),transferred from the purple coloured paper foil,which covered the bottle for many years in the underground cellar.The capsule is in an excellent state.
