The 1989 Meyney is one of the finest ever produced. The opaque,black/ruby color,a bouquet of minerals and damson plums, the alcoholic, massive flavours, and the mouth-coating tannins all combine to create a sensory overload. The 1989 will prove uncommonly long lived as well as profoundly flavoured. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. Last tasted January 1993.
(90 Points)
Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).
"We believe 1989 is the greatest modern vintage for Bordeaux and close in quality to the legendary vintages, such as 1961 and 1945.That's why we rate it 98 points overall. So many exciting wines were made in 1989 that it's difficult to go wrong when you buy a bottle. We recommend that you buy as much '89 as you can afford, since another classic year may not come along for a long time".
James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator 15/10/1994).
