FOR SALE: ONE BOTTLE OF LA TOUR HAUT BRION GRAND CRU CLASSE DE GRAVES

This now very rare wine is being sold in excellent condition, having been owned by a private collector who worked in the wine trade and who obviously understood the importance of correct and careful storage. The bottle, label and capsule are almost as new.

1982 La Tour Haut Brion is now almost a legendary wine, having received astonishing praise from the wine community:

Today, the fruit from this vineyard has been incorporated into the second wine of La Mission-Haut-Brion, so I hope readers do not forget how great many vintages of La Tour-Haut-Brion were. The superb 1982 ranks alongside their great 1949, 1955, 1959, 1961, and 1975. No wine since this 1982 ever achieved this level of quality. Its inky/purple hue is followed by classic aromas of scorched earth, plums, cassis, charcoal, and truffles, powerful, full-bodied flavors, superb concentration, and a boatload of tannin. The wine is so complex aromatically, and the attack is so impressive that I can’t resist drinking it. However, it should be even better in 5-8 years, and should last for another three decades. Release price: ($150.00/case)

Wine Advocate # 129

Drink: 2006 - 2030
$615-$813

This wine appears to be on steroids. The color is a dense opaque purple. The bouquet offers up notes of chocolate, espresso beans, smoke, iron, earth, and copious quantities of black jammy fruit. Thick, intense, succulent, full-bodied, and powerful, it remains 7-8 years away from full maturity. It should last 30+ years. An amazing accomplishment, the 1982 La Tour-Haut-Brion is the last profound wine produced at this estate. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2030. A legendary effort!

And WS rates it at 94 and says...

A subtle yet rich wine. Dark red, with an inky center and an amber edge. Beautiful cigar-box, berry and cherry aromas. Full-bodied and very ripe, with sweet fruit and wonderful autumnal flavors. Long, with silky texture.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now. –JS

There are quite a few notes on CellarTracker, but the top level is:

Community Tasting Notes (average 96.6 pts. and median of 96 pts. in 9 notes)

Sadly Latour Haut Brion is no longer producing wine and it is only bottles like this one (and the other one I have left) that will allow us to remember this great wine in the future.

Value wise, Wine Searcher suggests a value of around £450 ex vat.I have set a reserve comfortably below this, which is fair given the prestige and condition of this bottle.

The bottle will be sent securely packaged and fully insured on receipt of cleared funds. Alternatively, collection on person would perfectly acceptable.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Please also see my other bottles for sale.
